Viet Nam seeks World Bank's preferential loans for mega infrastructure projects

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on the World Bank to provide preferential loans for Viet Nam's high-speed railway, urban railway, seaport and airport construction projects.

Pham made the call during his meeting with World Bank Vice President for East Asia and Pacific Manuela Ferro in Vientiane, Laos on October 10.

Ms. Manuelo Ferro, for her part, voiced support for Prime Minister Pham's proposal and reiterated the World Bank's commitment to close cooperation with Viet Nam on its journey to realize the goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045.

The same day, Prime Minister Pham hosted a reception for President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Jin Liqun, during which the former asked the AIIB to continue assisting Viet Nam in mobilizing resources for mega projects such as Lao Cai-Ha Noi-Hai Phong, Lang Son-Ha Noi standard gauge railway projects.

Pham also sought AIIB's preferential loans, technological transfer, and assistance for human resource training for these projects.

Jin vowed to continue to assist Viet Nam in mobilizing resources for key infrastructure development projects, ensuring energy for the operation of high-speed rail lines.

Both sides agreed to establish working groups to carry out pre-feasibility studies for joint projects and to enhance connectivity between the "Two Corridors, One Belt" and the "Belt and Road" initiatives./.
