Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Tuesday stressed the need for active preparations for trade negotiations with the U.S to protect Viet Nam's legitimate interests while meeting appropriate requirements of the U.S. side.

The Government negotiating team on trade issues with the US is headed by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien.

According to the Latin American outlet, the most outstanding achievement in the recent intensive negotiation days was Vietnam’s special task force convincing the US side to agree to begin negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement, an issue Washington had previously avoided on numerous occasions.

Vietnam is implementing commitments on preferential export and special preferential import taxes within the framework of the 15 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and two bilateral trade agreements (BTAs) with a coverage of more than 80% of Vietnam's import turnover. Participation in FTAs/BTAs creates a great driving force for Vietnam's import-export turnover growth.
